Grid Compliance
Study (PSCAD)
Overview
A Grid Compliance Study verifies that a power plant or grid-connected facility meets all applicable grid code requirements before synchronisation with the transmission or distribution network. It is a mandatory prerequisite for most utility interconnection approvals and renewable energy project commissioning.
What the Study Covers
Full dynamic behaviour modelling
Using PSCAD electromagnetic transient simulations, we model the full dynamic behaviour of your plant under a range of operating scenarios, including normal operation, voltage and frequency deviations, and fault conditions. Key areas of investigation include:
Steady-state Compliance
Steady-state voltage and frequency compliance across the full operating envelope
Fault Ride-Through
Fault Ride-Through (FRT) capability: the plant's ability to remain connected during grid faults
Power Response
Active and reactive power response to grid disturbances
RoCoF Tolerance
Rate of Change of Frequency (RoCoF) tolerance
Power Quality
Power Quality parameters: harmonic distortion, flicker, and voltage unbalance
Protection Coordination
Protection relay coordination and trip sequencing
Applicable Standards
-
01
Grid Code (CEA India)
Central Electricity Authority regulations for grid-connected generators
-
02
IEEE 1547
Standard for Interconnection and Interoperability of Distributed Energy Resources
-
03
IEC 61400
Wind turbine and wind power plant grid integration requirements
Typical Applications
Grid compliance studies are critical for solar PV plants, wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), captive power plants, and any industrial facility connecting to the high-voltage transmission network.
Benefits
Ensures smooth regulatory approval and utility interconnection agreement sign-off
Identifies compliance gaps early, reducing costly retrofit modifications post-commissioning
Provides documented evidence of grid code conformance for lenders and investors
Reduces risk of forced disconnection penalties during commercial operation
Why We Are the Best for Grid Compliance
Studies in India
India's power sector is undergoing its most ambitious transformation in history — with over 500 GW of renewable energy capacity targeted by 2030 — and grid code compliance has never been more demanding or more consequential. Our team has accumulated hands-on experience executing PSCAD-based grid compliance studies for wind, solar, and hybrid projects across multiple Indian states, working directly within the CEA Grid Code framework and state utility requirements.
What distinguishes us is not just our simulation capability, but our regulatory fluency. We understand the precise documentation format expected by SLDCs and RLDCs, the technical benchmarks applied by independent engineers during lender due diligence, and the nuances of FRT and reactive power requirements that are project-specific across different grid zones in India.
- → Dedicated PSCAD modelling team with certified expertise in EMT simulation for grid-connected plant
- → Direct track record of compliance studies accepted by CEA, STUs, and DISCOMs across India
- → IEEE 1547 and IEC 61400 alignment built into every study — not bolted on as an afterthought
- → Reports formatted for RLDC/SLDC submission, lender technical review, and EPC contract handover
- → Post-study advisory support: we work with your control system vendor to implement AVR and power plant controller (PPC) adjustments
